Chuy Border City

Chuy is a border city between Uruguay and Brazil. The border line penetrates the city, and is drawn by the most popular street of town! Amazing huh? So if you’re crossing the street, you’re actually crossing into Brazil. People can freely cross between 2 countries in this city. The banks in the north side of street give Real, whereas the south side gives Uruguay Pesos; you can use both in the city. Spanish and Portuguese are also both used to communicate. But don’t spend energy, trying to talk your “royal” English with someone (like most of the Latin America). Even Queen Elizabeth will get lost if she comes here and would call James Bond to extract her from here 🙂

The main street is filled with tens of Duty Free shops and crazy Brazilian shoppers inside. They look like very much cheaper than airport duty frees. It is absolutely tempting to buy those shiny things. Yet i can’t and i shouldn’t surrender to those dark ideas. Like 3.5 years ago, when me and my friends crossed from Canada to USA with a rental car for a day, just for Black Friday, when we lost ourself and looked like smugglers, transporting tons of goods between 2 countries. Hahaha…

Immigration offices are a few kms outside the city, in both directions. I checked the map, why is it like that. Saw that, actually 2 different rivers draw border line outside the city. And looks like they needed an imaginary straight line to connect those 2 rivers to complete border line. I guess…
