Gürkan Genç, World Bicycle Tourer

Gürkan Genç, World Bicycle Tourer Gurkan GENC
.
He’s been travelling the whole world on his “iron horse” (as he says), for nearly 5 years, with at least 5 years more to go. The last time I saw him was summer of 2012, just before he started his world travel, when he joined us in my neighborhood (Çayyolu) while me and some group of cyclists from the same area were cycling together. (Perşembe Akşamı Bisikletçileri)
.
The thing I got most curious about him was, how he will see Ankara or Turkey, after 10 years of being away. Or how his friends&parents will react. I wish I had his eyes during his travels.
.
During the very beginning of my travels, I was having the emotional/psychological difficulty of saying involuntary goodbye to people that I’ve just met a few days ago with whom I enjoyed time. The frustration that it ended. Later I got used to that feeling and forgot it…until now, when he reminded me that feeling, while saying goodbye and waving my hand after him, in the dark street, going opposite ways on never ending roads, slowly disappearing on sight in the night, only illuminated by red/yellow street lights and only sound of blowing wind, like he’s about to be one with the wind.
.
I’m glad people like him exist in this life, who enlightened me with more experience than anything I could have imagined in my travel, only in 2 days while I was listening to his stories curiously with an indescribable pleasure of getting knowledge of life & the world, total opposite to what I felt and saw in university; and guiding me while I was having confusions these days and searching for answers. Thank you Mr. “Living” Buddha 🙂 (Parti kur oy verelim, din kur halifesi olalım haha)

The 2nd day ended with 2 French & 2 Turks, watching the Lyon vs Beşiktaş match together in the hostel
